Retailers prep for networking and business building at 9th annual ABC Spring Conference & Trade Show, May 1-3.
Now in its ninth year, the ABC Spring Educational Conference & Trade Show (allbabyandchildsec.com) is an annual event specifically created for independent specialty stores and suppliers. “Retailers can learn about and place orders for the latest products from the best specialtyoriented brands, but they’re not competing for manufacturers’ time against big-box retailers, such as Wal-Mart or Amazon,” says Larry Schur, president of All Baby & Child Inc., who answered a few more questions for Baby&Kids magazine.
How does the Spring Conference differ from the Fall Expo?
It’s much smaller in scope and intimate by design, and it provides free education sessions to meet the needs of both buyer and manufacturer. In addition to scouting products, the ABC Conference also provides a forum to learn best practices from other retailers. The focus has always been on business building. From vital education to intimate networking, this event provides all participants that opportunity.
What’s new in 2017?
This year, Brixy, the independent retail organization, will fully support the ABC Conference and hold its annual meeting at the event. There are already 50 percent more independent retailers registered for the event than at this time last year, including most of the Brixy membership. Plus, we are very excited to host this event for the first time in our home town, San Antonio.
Do you have advice for retailers?
My best advice is be prepared to learn from not only the education sessions but from your peers. Take advantage of show specials and our popular Booth Crawl merchandise purchase rebate program. There is free food and beverage during our two receptions and lunch on the trade show floor. Also, the event falls directly after the city’s most popular event, Fiesta, and just before Cinco de Mayo, so you will never get more prime time San Antonio than this!
