'Über-nice mom' blogger to help ASTRA

Liz Gumbinner, author of the popular MOM-101 blog and editor-in-chief of Cool Mom Picks, will help the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA) promote its 2013 Best Toys for Kids awards and 2013 Neighborhood Toy Store Day.

A frequent guest on television shows like NBC's "Today," CBS's "The Early Show" and Martha Stewart, Gumbinner has won numerous awards for her blog. Parents magazine named MOM-101 the Best All-Around Mom Blog in 2011 and said "reading [Gumbinner's] blog is the next best thing to getting to hang out with the smart, cool, yet ├╝ber-nice mom at the playground."

Kathleen McHugh, ASTRA's president, noted that Gumbinner is a good fit with ASTRA's brand because she gives voice to many values shared by specialty toy customers. "Liz Gumbinner writes and speaks authentically about modern parenting," McHugh says. "Just like ASTRA toys, she is smart and unique. ASTRA customers are the type of moms who follow her blog, her tweets, and her television appearances. We expect that she will help us make significant progress in raising toy buyers' awareness of ASTRA's biggest consumer programs of the year: the Best Toys for Kids Awards Program and Neighborhood Toy Store Day."

Picture frame holds, dispenses diapers

The Windel is a cleverly-designed wall mount system that serves as a combination picture frame, cabinet and dispenser for diapers and accessories. It dispenses diaper and wipes while the cabinet remains closed. Parents can put the Windel anywhere in the home to avoid running to the nursery every time they need a diaper. It can later transform into a decorative/organizational cabinet for any other room or use when no longer needed for baby.

Stick horses carry kids' imaginations

White Stick Horse and Paint Stick Horse from Douglas Company feature a realistic 12-inch horse head mounted on a sturdy 36-inch wooden pole. White Stick Horse is clearly feminine with her bright pink bridle, while Paint Stick Pony is the perfect painted pony in shades of chocolate and cream, with a brown faux leather bridle.

Bracelet makes mosquitoes leave kids alone

Buglet is a kid-inspired, mom-engineered solution to the never-ending battle between mosquitoes and kids. It's a slap-on bracelet with a cool, collectable animal face that holds a 100 percent natural repellent made of essential oils. The repellent emits a mild scent that is pleasant to humans but disgusting to mosquitoes, so they stay away.

Safari lowers age limit for 60 toys

Safari Ltd, a manufacturer and worldwide distributor of museum-quality, educational toys, has lowered the suggested age for more than 60 figures in its Incredible Creatures collection.

Select figures previously suggested for ages 3 years and older are now suitable for ages 18 months and up, including the bearded dragon, flying fish, panda baby, moray eel, frilled lizard, sea turtle, 2014 piglet and many more.

The new, lower age recommendation breaks Safari Ltd into the baby market for the first time in the company's history.

"We've considered retesting our products for lower age recommendations for quite some time," said Safari Ltd President Alexandre Pariente. "We are confident that Safari Ltd will assume a lasting, impactful presence in this new market."
